The city has also been declared as the second largest software exporter in the country and the 2nd cleanest city in India trailing behind Chandigarh. Mysore is the city of historical importance as it played an important part in India's struggle for independence. Many people from the city participated in the 'Quit India Movement' launched by Mahatma Gandhi and the national radio of India namely 'The All India Radio' had Mysore as its first location. This city is located at a distance of 140 km from Bangalore.

Palaces in Mysore

There are various palaces in the city of Mysore. The most popular palace of the city is the ‘Mysore Palace’. This palace used to be house of the royal family of Mysore. Jaganamohan Palace is another palace in Mysore. This palace was constructed as an alternative palace to the royal family. There is an art gallery located at this palace now.The Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion houses a university now and the Lalitha Mahal Palace is the beautiful White colored palace, built in Italian style.

Chamundi Hills

Located at an elevation of 1000 meters, this hill offers a beautiful and breathes taking view of the city. One needs to climb 1180 stairs to reach the top of the city where the famous 'Mahishasura Statue' and 'Chamundeshwari Temple' are located. It is a revered place because of being associated with the goddess 'Chamundi' popularly called 'Chandi'.

St. Philomena's Church

Built in the Gothic style, this is one of the largest Cathedrals in South Asia. The Church has the relic of the 3rd century St. Philomena. It was constructed in 1956 style and its architecture is inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany.

Brindavan Gardens

These gardens were established in 1982 in an area of around 60 acres. There are some very beautiful fountains located in these gardens and the view of the gardens at night is worth watching. The garden offers large varieties of plants and flowers. There is an entry fee to the garden.
